And the Bible’s Attacked Again

By Ron Graham

“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” 1 Peter 1:24-25 Peter is placing his emphasis here on the fact that, unlike men’s lives, God’s word is eternal.

The new “hate crimes” bill passed in congress and signed into law by Obama is just another attack on the Bible. You say “How is that possible Ron”? For those of you who aren’t already aware of the agenda behind such a bill I’ll tell you. Homosexuality and the promotion of same are behind this bill. This bill effectively levy’s strict punishment upon anyone who speaks against homosexuality. Well guess what? God speaks against homosexuality as well as all sin. So, this is just another attempt to rid us of the Book that can and has changed lives.

Interesting isn’t it? The word of God has endured for thousands of years and yet the naysayers continue with their attacks. They’re always around to contradict God’s word. Much too frequently for my liking. There isn’t one day that passes without reading somewhere that someone is telling us the Bible is a bunch of fanciful stories for entertainment purposes alone. It’s not to be read as God’s word, after all it was written by men and we all know where that will get us. It’s just a bunch of hooey.

They come and go, don’t they? Who are they anyway these foolish people who won’t believe the truth? Even though the Bible has endured for thousands of years people still can’t, or won’t grasp the significance of such a humanly impossible accomplishment.

Think about it, here we have men writing what God has given them to write down and for the most part these men did not know each other. Yet as you read through the Bible as a believer you will shortly come to realize hat it is God’s inspired work. There’s no doubt He’s the author; we find its one integrated design from cover to cover. Only the Holy Spirit could have supernaturally accomplished such a feat.

How do we explain to the unbeliever that the Bible is true? Well how about telling them how long it has endured and then ask them if they know of any of man’s works that have endured as long. Just in case they come up with something like the writing of Plato or Homer’s Odyssey or Iliad, let them know that they aren’t even close to the long standing presence of the scriptures. No other writings will stand up to the test of time especially after what the Bible had to endure to stay around ‘til today.

When we come to the realization that the Bible has been the object of such persecution it’s a wonder, no it’s a miracle it’s still with us. The Bible has been the most bitterly hated book in all history. For the last two thousand years man’s hatred of the Bible has been persistent. Man with all his knowledge has been determined to rid the world of such a horrendous influence corrupting the minds of men. Every possible effort has been made to undermine faith in the inspiration and authority of the Bible, and innumerable enterprises have been undertaken with determination to consign it to oblivion. Yet it remains the most beloved book of all time. Just how is that possible? Could it be that the Bible is supernaturally protected?

Supernaturally is the only explanation, God wants His word available to all people. Some countries just can’t comprehend and refuse to even allow it to be a part of their society. Imperial edicts of past rulers have been issued to the effect that every known copy of the Bible should be destroyed, and when this measure failed to exterminate and annihilate God’s Word, commands were given that every person found with a copy of the Scriptures in his possession should be put to death. Hoards of Christians were put to death for their disobedience in not relinquishing their Bibles. The very fact that the Bible has been so singled out for such relentless persecution causes us to wonder at such a unique phenomenon.

Saudi Arabia is one of those countries in the Middle East that will not allow the Bible into their country and the punishments for disregarding this edict are severe. Don’t let that discourage you; many people put their lives on the line to get the word of God into the hands of those who seek His truth. Some are successful in their distribution attempts, others aren’t. God rewards the diligent, successful or not.

Why does the Bible receive such treatment? Well it’s really quite simple. The scriptures convict men of their guilt and condemn them for their sins. We see groups of people today that are determined to either eliminate the Bible all together or at the very least they want to change the wording to fit today’s advanced civilizations. The concentrated efforts of the Emergent church, and the contemplative spirituality crowd, are focused on ridding mankind of this book of antiquities which they say is full of myths, but they will utterly fail. God is in charge and unless He says “That’s it, my word is gone”, then it will remain completely intact.

It is humanly as well as supernaturally impossible to rid the world of God’s inerrant word. Every engine of destruction has been hurled at it to destroy God’s word yet the Bible stands firm and resolute. Is there an army defending the Bible? Is there a King defending God’s holy word? I say yes. An army of angelic hosts defend it against the powers of darkness. Our King the Lord Jesus holds sway over His word and no supernatural demonic creatures of evil will prevail against it.

It seems that in just about every field of academia there stands a huge throng of individuals ready to condemn the most important and influential book of all time. Only a relatively small amount of these folks actually honor or revere the Bible. The cities of the ancients were lighted with bonfires made of Bibles, and for centuries only those in hiding dared to read it. How then, can we account for the survival of the Bible in the face of such bitter persecution? The only solution is to be found in the promise of God. “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Matthew 24:35.

During the first three centuries AD the Roman Emperors tried desperately to destroy any and all vestiges of God’s Word. One of them, named Diocletian, believed that he had succeeded. He had so many Christians put to death and so many Bibles destroyed, that when the lovers of the Bible remained quiet and stayed in hiding, he was sure he had ended the Christian religion and destroyed their God.

Diocletian was so ecstatic at his victory over those hard headed Christians that he ordered a medal to be struck inscribed with the words, “The Christian religion is destroyed and the worship of the gods restored.” But Diocletian was wrong and the Bible and Christianity are both thriving today. And we all know where Diocletian is spending eternity.

Missionaries and Bible smugglers have just about covered the globe with Bibles in almost every language. To this very day Bibles are being supplied either openly or in secret to just about every country the world over. It can’t be stopped by man, and it won’t be slowed by the forces of evil. God is behind this venture.

The Roman Catholic Church played its part in attempting to rid the world of the word of God to the point that if you were found with a Bible you were tortured and killed. That persecution ended with the Reformation at the close of the sixteenth century and the Word of God was again given to the masses in their own language. Bibles today are plentiful here in America; even secular bookstores carry the Bible. Why? Because the Bible has been, and remains to this day, the bestselling book of all time.

Whether for profit or for God, the Bible is being distributed. Does Jesus care whether or not His word is distributed through secular bookstores? “And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.” Luke 9:49, 50. God will use whatever means He wishes to get His word out.

What do we see happening today, attempting to dismiss the Bible as foolishness? Evolution. Scientists claim there is no god; that we evolved from pond scum millions, or is it billions, of years ago. They change it so often I’m never sure any more. So what good is the Bible if we weren’t created by a god? Since we evolved the Bible is useless. Oh sure there’s a few profound quips that might be useful but for the most part it’s just a very irritating and defamatory book. It ridicules our lifestyle and promotes nonsensical ideas of love and hope. It’s just foolishness and it’s not needed here in the enlightened 21st century.

The lie of evolution has been grossly and satanically fed to the world’s populace for many years now. Just after this commentary is posted to the internet I will begin to receive many emails from the brethren. They will attempt to prove me wrong in my estimation of evolution. Again, more attacks on the Bible, from those who profess to believe.

Every day the Bible comes under attacked and from many different directions, and what is accomplished with these attacks? Nothing, God won’t let His word become of no effect. He knows how much we need it. And like I said, until He’s ready for it to disappear no attack will ever remove His word from our lives. The Bible has been horribly mistreated. It has been burned, thrown into the ocean and drowned, locked away, ripped out of our hands, and torn to pieces, yet never destroyed. God’s word endures; God’s word is power.

All the attacks on the Bible are of a satanic nature, and all of the attacks will enviably fail. There will come a time when God’s word will seemingly disappear from the land. All those who’ve ignored it or tried to eliminate it so as not to be confronted with the truth, as well as those who’ve read it but disparaged it, will all regret their foolishness one day soon.

The souls of those who are foolish enough to dismiss the Bible as hooey and who have placed their faith in man instead of God will also endure forever, but in a place of torment Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Mark 9:48. Paul says “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks (Gentiles) foolishness;” 1 Corinthians 1:23.

Now after all I’ve just written about God’s word being indestructible this part of my commentary may seem a little confusing to some of you. “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.” Amos 8:11, 12.

God’s word will endure forever; we know that from Peter’s proclamation in the 25th verse in the first chapter of his first epistle. But God tells us those who’ve rejected His word, will, in the last days, seek it, but they won’t be able to find it; God is going to keep it from them. There will be a famine for His word (similar to a famine of food or water and just as necessary) all because of the rebellious nature of those who’ve been left behind.

There are always consequences to our foolishness. In the case of those who are perishing the consequences will be severe. Pick up your Bible before it’s too late. Study God’s inerrant word. Trust in the Lord and His word and accept the truth. Or, ignore God’s word at your own peril.

God bless you all,

Ron Graham
