Sons of God
By Ron Graham

A son honoureth [his] father, and a servant his master: if then I [be] a father, where [is] mine honour? and if I [be] a master, where [is] my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you…” Malachi 1:6.

Indeed, where is His honor, and where is the fear of the Lord? How can we say we honor or fear God when we won’t even stand up for Him in a crowd? I recently read a news article on World Net Daily’s website which claimed a county in California stood up against that state and refused to give marriage licenses to homosexual couples. Their lawyers had given them sound advice that what some judges in that state did was unlawful. The very next day they relented under pressure and fell into step with the rest of California. In chapter four of the book of Acts we are told about a time when Peter and John were arrested because they were preaching about Christ to a crowd of people at Solomon’s porch. Through the power of the Holy Spirit they had just convince about five thousand people of the truth about Christ.

They were brought before Annas and Caiaphas who commanded them not to speak or teach in the name of Jesus of Nazareth any more. Read carefully the response that Peter and John gave to these deceived men. “…Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye, For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard,” Acts 4:19, 20. Do we fear man over God? If we are sons of God as the scriptures tell us, how can we ever turn our backs on God’s truth, and ultimately on God Himself? “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12. Power, power, power, wonderful working power! Believers need to understand the power we were given because it is power beyond that of any other mortals. Only as sons of God have we received such power. Only as sons of God can we preach the Gospel with awesome wonderful power.

It seems that, for the most part, Christians in America are ignoring the power given them by Christ; they have little or no intestinal fortitude. People, we are in a battle. We don’t battle against other people such as non-believers, but we are constantly battling against powers and principalities, minions of evil in high places. Christians in every walk of life are entrenched in this battle. Yes its Satan’s domain and the battle rages unto God’s finale. It’s our flesh that battles against our spirit, but how long are we going to allow the flesh to win these battles? Ultimately we know who wins the war, but shouldn’t we be holding up our end, fighting against the evils of our time? “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God,” Romans 8:14. Are we being led by the Holy Spirit or a satanic spirit?

The followers of Jesus Christ can’t live and work in this country without knowing just how perverse a society we live in. God’s word tells us that we are to live in the world but not be of the world. In other words, we aren’t earth dwellers; we are sojourners just passing through on our way to where God has prepared a wonderful mansion for each of His sons in Heaven. This world needs to see Christians standing firm on God’s promises, they need to see us aligning ourselves with His word, and we need to reflect God’s one and only Son in our daily walk. We are to be as a guiding light. “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” Philippians 2:15.

If we love God, and I’m sure all true born again believers do, shouldn’t we stand up for our Jesus? God should be pleased to call us His children, His sons. We are to honor God with our lives, because He purchased us with His blood. There should be nothing more important in this life than showing ourselves approved by the only One that counts. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not,

1 John 3:1.

Where is God’s honor and where is the fear of the Lord that should be residing in His people? Standing firm is hardly spoken of among the throng of apathetic Christians in today’s society. If we have faith God will take care of the rest. If we don’t believe that simple fact then how can we call ourselves sons of God? Do we trust God to accomplish His will through us, or do we place our trust in man? We are about to embark on a new road in this county. By this time next year we will have endured a few months of life under a brand new leader. In November we will choose a new president to run our country, but whoever we vote for it’s ultimately God’s decision who He will place in that exalted position. That individual may not recognize that fact but it’s the truth. He may not run this country according to God’s will, but that’s between our new president and God. Whether or not he honors God with the decisions he makes politically or in his personal life will ultimately forge Americas future and his relationship with the Savior of the world. History books will record for all to see if God is honored by this man.

God is our Father, we are His sons, and this sonship is representative of women also. We become fathers and mothers and we teach our children to respect and honor their elders. How would we feel if we had sons or daughters who were too ashamed of us, to even introduce us to their friends? That would hurt wouldn’t it? Would we love them any less? Of course not. Are we ashamed of our God? Too ashamed to introduce Him to our friends?

God is with us in all our decisions whether good or bad. He even knows what decisions we’ll make before we make them and yet He still loves us unconditionally. He doesn’t love us any less if we fail Him. Do we hurt Him as we neglect His commands? Absolutely. God is an awesome Father. We were chosen by Him to be His sons and daughters. “Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father,” John 6:65. God sees us as He sees His Son Jesus and that fact alone should humble us and continually convict us. Christians should always be asking themselves, “What have I done with God’s love”.

One of His commands is honor your father and mother. As born again believers in Christ, God is our Father. Are we honoring Him with our lives and our decisions? We make decisions everyday that affect the way the world looks at us. We are to honor the Father with our lives right now and forever. We belong to Jesus Christ and no matter what comes our way, no matter what kind of adversity is thrown in our faces we must stand firm. The end of all things is coming on the scene like a locomotive out of control. The news of events happening around the world that coincide with Bible prophecy are happening so quickly that we hardly have time to dwell on one thing before another hits us square between the eyes.

Whatever happens to us in this world shouldn’t matter. The only thing that should matter is that we continue steadfastly honoring God with our lives and decisions? In these “Last of Times” we may very well see the same persecution endured by the early Church come upon the current congregation of believers.

In both the Old and New Testaments we see that it is the sons who inherit. There are a few exceptions to that rule, but as sons of God we are to inherit the Kingdom of God. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galations 3:28.

Sons of God, do you love Him, do you really love Him?

God bless you all,

Ron Graham
